Type of Portfolio Entry: Song Lyrics (adaptation)
Title / Subject: Break Time Songs About Bio!
I selected this portfolio entry among my other ones simply because it is the one I enjoyed the most doing. I guess it can also kind of surprise people who don't know me because they might think I'm not the type to do this thing. I don't really talk a lot unless necessary but sometimes I get fits of craziness when I have to let all of my ideas flow and go.
The song I used was one of my personal OPM favorites ("Huling El Bimbo" by Eraserheads) and I really enjoyed listening to it over and over again just to see what lyrics wound fit in. Surprisingly, it was easy to do since I made most of the stuff up while going home. I was trying to sleep in our van when suddenly I remembered I had a portfolio entry due the next week so I started thinking of stuff and it hit me. The lyrics flowed easily enough and I just had to change a few when I got home. I really enjoyed making this one compared to my other 2 entries during the 1st semester.
Although I said all that, I really wish I could have sung this one! Or maybe made the lyrics fit in more, because there are some parts that are kind of off. I am happy about my work though generally. Just could have been happier.
Well, from going over this lesson, it really sunk into me that the evolutionary theory really does have some flaws since it was made by people who have coherent but not exactly the same beliefs. I also learned from it that all these people contributed something to the theory we generally contribute only to one man, Darwin (there were some that I only knew now, but most were already known to me). Lastly, I guess I learned that Evolution, as a theory, is still evolving too. I believe the last to be the most important because it makes clear to us that nothing is permanent nor perfect. We can always improve on things and things that may be "correct" now, can be considered false or perhaps insufficient in the future. We are only human thus we do not know anything. But this trait of not knowing allows us to grow.
I also got a few extra lessons from making this entry: learning can be really fun; you can make your own adaptive techniques to learn; learning something properly means that you can mold it into any shape or form you desire. I believe the last one to be most important too. Well, I did read up a lot on this topic and I have past lessons backing up my newly learned ones so I guess I got it covered well enough. I was able to mold what I knew into a song that I can probably use to entertain and teach other people. This is important because that is the essence of learning, applying what you learn.
For all those 2011 or batches to come who want to do something like this... Make sure you sing it! :) It's fun but also remember that if you make it, you gotta be prepared to perform it!
