Type of Portfolio Entry: Storybook Development
Title / Subject: Jonas Chlamydomonas (Behind the Scenes)
I chose this because making the storybook was probably one of the hardest parts of life science for me, and I'm sure for a whole lot of people. But it was certainly fun to see the finished product and reading other people's storybooks!
I really liked the conceptualization part of the project because it allowed us to go wild (to a certain extent) with the ideas we had. Although I really do not enjoy all the work involved in drawing the storybook and coloring it. None of us knew how to photoshop so our group had to do most of it manually and just add the text through word.
I know I could have improved on the quality of drawing and coloring of the art but I really am poor at drawing and coloring. If I knew how to photoshop, then maybe I could have done a better job at making it. Communication between us 3 was hard too considering Josh had STR to do (since their group had a mishap and had to do a BIG part of the subject over again) while Patrick was a dormer and lived far away.
I learned from this that Bio isn't really just a subject for high schoolers and beyond. I also learned that some concepts in Biology (such as mutualism and other forms of symbiosis) manifest in many ways in the human society (especially parasitism haha). Also, that Biology can be taught to others in a much simpler and watered down way. I guess that among the three, I consider the 1st one to be the most important. I've heard many people say that Biology isn't important to them either because they're too old or too young for it. I say that it's important and that age shouldn't matter. If you love it, you love it. If you hate, you hate it. But the fact remains, it's here for all of us whether we're aware or not. It's everything because it is life.
From the activity and the portfolio, I learned that learning is the thing that keeps us humans from doing things in one go. This project also makes it evident that we learn from the people we work with and even the people who see our work. The last one is very important for me because I'm not the type of person who receives much feedback from others. For some reason, I get a lot of feedback from my parents but not my friends. I wish that my friends would comment more about me and my work so that I'll know how to improve.
For the next batches of life sci: Plan a WHOLE LOT ahead and learn how to draw using your computer! Oh and don't forget to have fun!
